- KonferenzbeitragAccessibility in Conceptual Modeling Research and Tools(Modellierung 2024, 2024) Sarioglu, Aylin; Metin, Haydar; Bork, DominikThe reports on Disability by the World Health Organization show that the number of people with disabilities is increasing. Consequently, accessibility should play an essential role in information systems engineering research. While software and web engineering research acknowledge this need by providing, e.g., web accessibility guidelines and testing frameworks, we show in this paper, based on a systematic review of the literature and current modeling tools, that accessibility is, so far, a blind spot in conceptual modeling research. With the paper at hand, we aim to identify current research gaps and delineate a vision toward more inclusive, i.e., disability-aware conceptual modeling. One key finding relates to a gap in research and tool support concerning physical disabilities. Based on these results, we further present the first modeling tool that can be used keyboard-only, thereby including users with physical disabilities to engage in conceptual modeling.

Especially in large university courses, an automated assessment of models can improve the quality of teaching and learning. While there are many different approaches to automatically assess conceptual models, these approaches, however, often only tackle a single aspect or a single type of conceptual model. In this paper, we aim to take a comprehensive perspective on the topic and shed light on the current state of the art and technique. Furthermore, as assessment approaches have to be developed in accordance with appropriate teaching or learning activities and desired learning outcomes, we inquire in which settings automated assessment approaches are included and to which extent didactic aspects are taken into account. To this end, we have conducted a systematic literature review in which we identified 110 relevant publications on the topic which we have analyzed in a structured way. The results provide answers to five relevant research questions and pinpoint open issues which should be inquired in further research.
- TextdokumentInnovation by Information Technology Recombination: How Artificial Intelligence Progressive Web Apps Foster Sustainable Development(INFORMATIK 2021, 2021) Fukas, Philipp; Thomas, OliverArtificial Intelligence (AI) and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) represent two major trends in today’s development of modern information systems. AI aims to automate intelligent behaviour whereas PWAs aim to provide fast, reliable, and engaging applications. The influence of these two key technologies on organisations and sustainable development on their own has already been explored. However, there is no research that merges these technologies in terms of recombinant innovation to show their joint potential. By conducting a systematic literature review this article reveals the positive impact of “Artificial Intelligence Progressive Web Apps” (AI-PWAs) on sustainability. It is shown that AI-PWAs can realise economic, environmental and social benefits and thus can support the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

In the literature, it is discussed as both the cause of an insufficiently perceived digitalization and in context with an inadequate IT-based integration in healthcare. In particular, technical and organizational aspects are highlighted from the perspective of the different involved actors to achieve sufficient interoperability. Depending on the individual case, various established international industry standards in healthcare (e. g. DICOM, HL7 or FHIR) promise simple adaptation and various application advantages. In addition to the technical view, this article assumes economic challenges as the main causes for the lack of interoperability not discussed in the forefront. The economic challenges were mentioned and sparingly discussed in few cases in the literature. This article aims to fill this gap by offering a first characterization of identified and discussed economic challenges in the literature with respect to the lack of interoperability in healthcare. Based on a systematic literature search, 14 of the original 330 articles can be identified as relevant, allowing a more economic perspective on interoperability. In this context, different economic effects will be described; this includes cost-benefit decisions by individual stakeholders under different kinds of uncertainty or balancing of known individual costs for interoperability against uncertain and skewed distributed benefits within an ecosystem. Furthermore, more sophisticated cost-benefit approaches regarding interoperability challenges can be identified, including cost-benefit ratios that shift over time, or lock-in effects resulting from CRM-motivated measures that turn (non)interoperability decisions into cost considerations for single actors. Also, self-reinforcing effects through path dependencies, including direct and indirect network effects, have an impact on single and linked interoperability decisions.

The paper was online first in 2018 and was finally published 2019 in the Information and Software Technology (IST) journal. The use of metrics for assessing software products and their qualities is well established in traditional software engineering. However, such traditional metrics are typically not applicable to Software Product Line (SPL) engineering as they do not address variability management, a key part of product line engineering. Over time, various specialized product line metrics for SPLs have been described in literature, but no systematic description of these metrics and their characteristics is currently available. This paper presents a systematic literature review, where we identify metrics explicitly designed for variability models, code artifacts, and metrics taking both kinds of artifacts into account. This captures the core of variability management for product lines. We discovered 42 relevant papers reporting 147 metrics intended to measure various aspects of variability models or code artifacts. We provide a categorization of these metrics and discuss problematic issues regarding the definition of the metrics. We also systematically assess the evaluation status of the metrics showing a current lack of high-quality evaluation in the field. Researchers and practitioners can benefit from the published catalog of variability-aware metrics and the assessment of their evaluation status.
