- KonferenzbeitragData Spaces as the Distributed Communication Means for Industrial Automation and Control Systems(INFORMATIK 2023 - Designing Futures: Zukünfte gestalten, 2023) deMeer, JanA data space is more than just a repository for data. Even data is more than an item of data. However, in research a data space is not a new philosophy of communication. In this paper the concept of a data space shall be developed for its application in industrial automation and control systems (IACS). For this purpose, the existing reference architecture models, e.g. for I4.0 manufacturing or, electricity transportation and distribution but also for altruistic data dissemination in realms of smart infrastructures like cities, buildings, agriculture etc. Almost all examples of infrastructures shall be extended with something that is called in this paper a ‘fourth dimension’ in addition to the three regular dimensions comprising life cycle value streams, communication protocols and system component hierarchies. The fourth dimension of various reference architecture models can be represented by a combination of the two axes of the life cycle value stream of the system assets i.e., data, products, energy etc. with the axis of layered interoperability dealing with the representation of semantics in the given reference model. Thus, semantics means the state changes performed over time by the considered assets which requires the semantic interoperability between locations of a site or between device of a production chain. A state change issued by actors or processes during the life cycle value stream is an event that is represented in a data model and shall be accessible to other actors via the data space. Thus, the communicating actors or processes interconnected by the data space do not need the traditional layered communication protocols of the architectural models since they are interconnected through a distributed data space which plays the role of a distributed data repository to all actors and recipients of an application.
- ZeitschriftenartikelOrganisationsformen in der Referenzmodellierung — Forschungsbedarf und Gestaltungsempfehlungen auf Basis der Transaktionskostentheorie(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 46, No. 5, 2004) Brocke, Jan; Buddendick, ChristianReference models are built in order to increase the efficiency of information system development. By means of exchanging solutions for typical design problems the reuse of information models can be enhanced. Although there is an affluent number of works on reference modeling, existing reference models are rarely used in practice. One reason can be seen in the existence of various different institutional arrangements for the exchange of models that have not yet been at the focus of research. With this article, we recommend to enlarge the field of research on reference modeling by taking organisation theory into account. By considering Transaction Cost Economics alternative organisational patterns can be identified and examined by means of their „fit“ to a specific environmental situation. The implementation of hybrid organisations seems to be a promising approach for promoting the diffusion of reference models in practice. Therefore we explain how to apply networks as hybrid organisations in reference modelling.
- KonferenzbeitragSustainability in Artificial Intelligence - Towards a Green AI Reference Model(INFORMATIK 2023 - Designing Futures: Zukünfte gestalten, 2023) Weber, Sebastian; Guldner, Achim; Begic Fazlic, Lejla; Dartmann, Guido; Naumann, StefanThe interest in Green Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing as AI research is increasingly focusing on and taking into account environmental sustainability. This paper aims to clarify and emphasize the distinction between terms like sustainable AI, Green AI, Green by AI, and Green in AI, highlighting their importance in the context of environmentally responsible AI practices. We find that existing Green Software reference models are insufficient for meeting the unique requirements of Green AI. Thus, we argue that a tailored Green AI reference model is needed to guide and promote environmentally responsible practices in the field of AI, addressing the special considerations associated with Green AI.
- ZeitschriftenartikelZur Identifikation von Strukturanalogien in Datenmodellen(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 47, No. 2, 2005) Fettke, Peter; Loos, PeterOn the one hand, data models decrease the complexity of information system development. On the other hand, data models causes additional complexity. Recently structural analogies are discussed as instruments reducing the complexity of data models. This piece of research presents a procedure to identify structural analogies in data models and demonstrates its performance by analyzing Scheer’s reference model for industrial enterprises (Y-CIM-model). The proposed procedure is based on formalizing data models within set theory and uses a quantitative similarity measure. The obtained results show both identical and very similar information structures within the Y-CIM-model. Furthermore, ways of dealing with the identified structural analogies are discussed from an analysis and software design perspective.
