- KonferenzbeitragChallenges in the Development of Mobile Online Services in the Automotive Industry - A Case Study(Software Engineering 2022, 2022) Prenner, Nils; Klünder, Jil; Nolting, Michael; Sniehotta, Oliver; Schneider, KurtAutomotive companies need to develop new innovations fast in order to stay ahead of their competitors. New sensor technologies and the connection between cars and smartphones open the development of different services, like the analysis of driving behavior. These services are called mobile online services and are a growing field in the automotive sector. We want to understand the challenges that slow down the development of mobile online services in automotive companies. Therefore, we conducted a case study with an interview study in a project that develops services to manage vehicle fleets. Our results show that the company considers mobile online services rather as a by-product and is still focused on the manufacturing of cars. This summary refers to the paper Challenges in the Development of Mobile Online Services in the Automotive Industry -A Case Study. This paper was published as full research paper in the proceedings of the Joint International Conference on Software and System Processes and International Conference on Global Software Engineering 2021.
- KonferenzbeitragEnterprise Information Systems in Academia and Practice: Lessons learned from a MBSE Project(40 Years EMISA 2019, 2020) Adam, Kai; Michael, Judith; Netz, Lukas; Rumpe, Bernhard; Varga, SimonThe development of domain-specific information systems, especially web information systems, takes a certain amount of time, needs intensive testing to ensure a certain quality and lacks the consistency of front- and backend. Using model-based strategies for the creation of information systems helps to overcome these problems by fastening the development process, facilitating testing and ensuring consistency-by-construction. In practice, however, they are still rarely used. In this paper, we show that model-based engineering is beneficial for the creation of an enterprise information system and improves the quality of the resulting product. We present the basic functionalities of our Generator for Enterprise Management (MontiGEM) and discuss identified problems and lessons learned in a project in practice. The generator was developed simultaneously with and for an enterprise management system. Our research shows that the use of generative methods and MBSE improves the adaptability and reusability of parts of the application on the one hand but on the other hand, there are still obstacles that slow down its broad application in practice.
- ZeitschriftenartikelUsability Integration in Agile Development Processes: A Practice-Oriented Best Practice Approach(i-com: Vol. 14, No. 2, 2015) Schmitt, Hartmut; Magin, Dominik; Maier, Andreas; Wacker, Richard; Wang, JoshSmall and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increasingly rely on agile software development. However, the majority of established usability methods have been developed with traditional software engineering principles in mind. So, one might assume that these methods and tools might not be applicable to agile development projects. In this paper, a possible approach to systematically adapting traditional usability methods to application in agile projects is introduced and documented as best practices. These best practices can be quickly and dynamically employed by agile development team members and can thus contribute to higher quality of software development outputs. The approach described in this paper was developed in the context of a German research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and conducted by one research institute and three software-developing enterprises and will be evaluated throughout the further course of the project. For this purpose, a number of best practices have been adapted to the context of agile software development and described in detail in order to allow inexperienced software developers of small and medium-sized enterprises to successfully apply these best practices. As two examples of these best practices, we illustrate the best practices ‘Contextual Inquiry’ and ‘Template-Based UI Design’ in this paper.
