- KonferenzbeitragAssessment of Agile Culture(Projektmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle 2019 - Neue Vorgehensmodelle in Projekten - Führung, Kulturen und Infrastrukturen im Wandel, 2019) Guckenbiehl, Pascal; Theobald, SvenMany software development teams are adopting agile methods like Scrum or XP, but these might not always be applicable, especially for teams outside software development. Nonetheless, every team might profit from adopting the agile mindset. However, teams need support in assessing and improving their current cultural agility. This work proposes a systematic process to enable such assessment and improvement in an effective way. Further, the approach makes use of a tool, which supports the evaluation of the team’s maturity regarding certain criteria derived from the agile principles. Both are demonstrated by examining an actual service desk team. The results are discussed and interpreted, leading to a set of specific suggestions for improvement. This demonstrates that regardless of the domain, teams can become more agile even without adopting agile methods, just by focusing on improving the culture.
- KonferenzbeitragOn Agile Leadership and Project Sustainability(Projektmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle 2023 - Nachhaltige IT-Projekte, 2023) Guckenbiehl, Pascal; Krieg, Alexander; Brandt, Sarah; Theobald, SvenSustainability is the predominant topic right now and will remain so in the coming decades, which adds another layer to the already existing complexity accompanying digitalization. At the same time, many organizations embrace agile leadership on project or organizational level, to better deal with complexity and constant changes. The objective of this paper is to investigate potential impacts of agile leadership on project sustainability. This is done by mapping categories of agile leadership to the three sustainability dimensions “people, profit, and planet” (triple bottom line). While certain sustainability aspects can be addressed primarily by top level decision making and the mindset of leaders, other aspects are directly influenced by an agile environment and way of working. Overall, the results highlight natural synergies between agile leadership and sustainability and provide an impulse for further research.
- KonferenzbeitragOn Characteristics and Process Requirements of Artificial Intelligence Projects(Projektmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle 2024 - Neues Arbeiten in Projekten – Teamarbeit neu interpretiert, 2024) Krieg, Alexander; Theobald, Sven; Brandt, Sarah; Guckenbiehl, PascalFor computer scientists around the world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not a new topic. Most people use AI unconsciously in their everyday life, for example when they use their smartphones. Since the release of ChatGPT in 2022, AI hit the interest of industry and society. The expectations on AI projects are high, companies hope to reduce costs and increase efficiency by inventing AI solutions in their companies. The aim of this paper was to better understand the characteristics of AI projects as well as the differences to classic software projects. We also wanted to investigate what kind of process model and project management framework is most suitable to successfully lead AI projects. We conducted structured interviews with four AI experts to gain an initial overview. The results provide insights into AI projects and suggest ideas for future research on software engineering for AI projects.

- KonferenzbeitragA Scientific Baseline for Agile Leadership - A Workshop Study(Projektmanagement und Vorgehensmodelle 2022 - Virtuelle Zusammenarbeit und verlorene Kulturen?, 2022) Krieg, Alexander; Penner, Nils; Theobald, Sven; Guckenbiehl, Pascal; Schneider, KurtLeadership faces its biggest transformation in decades. The age of data and information as well as the associated digitalization are the driving forces behind fast and radically changing markets. Sustainability, diversity and self-organization are subjects modern companies and their leadership culture must address. There is plenty of literature on agile leadership and many practitioners and coaches work on building an agile leadership culture. However, we realized that there is a lack of scientific research and understanding regarding what characterizes agile leadership. This paper aims to present a scientific baseline for agile leadership to start closing the gap between practical knowledge and scientific investigation. We conducted three workshops with agile experts to elicit their understanding and experiences with regard to agile leadership and aggregated them into an overview of categories and characteristics. Practitioners can use these insights to identify potential for improvement in their leadership culture, while researchers can build on the results in their future research.
