This can be a major challenge as they face technological, regulatory, economic, supply chain, and cultural hurdles when transitioning to more sustainable practices. However, data spaces offer new ways to sharing data can help to accurately calculate CO2 emissions and develop new business models based on it. To illustrate the impact of data spaces on sustainability we considered the example of the product carbon footprint. Doing so, we analyzed public data of the automotive network Catena-X and highlighted the added value for each actor in the ecosystem using the e³value modeling language. Supplementary, we transferred our findings into business model elements (value proposition, value creation and delivery, and value capture).

Es scheint offensichtlich, dass Daten eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Erreichung eines nachhaltigen Gebäudedesigns spielen. Dennoch bleibt die Bereitstellung von Daten, sodass jeder Stakeholder, der sie benötigt, Zugang erhält, ein bedeutendes Problem. Datentreuhänder sind eine neuartige Art von Datenintermediären, die es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht haben, Datenanbietern und -verbrauchern eine Plattform zu bieten, auf der sie ihre Daten sicher und souverän teilen können. Datentreuhänder sind im Bausektor noch nicht weit verbreitet. Da wir jedoch das Potenzial sehen, dass sie durch ihre spezifischen Funktionen zu nachhaltigeren Gebäuden beitragen können, zeigen wir die Notwendigkeit auf, ihren Wert für den Bausektor zu erforschen.
- KonferenzbeitragSustainable ecosystems: Findings from the NaWerSys workshop series(INFORMATIK 2024, 2024) Schoormann, Thorsten; Kammler, Friedemann; Gembarski, Paul Christoph; Hagen, Simon; Brinker, Jonas; Bollenbach, Jessica; Jussen, Ilka; Keller, Robert; Kortum-Landwehr, Henrik; Möller, Frederik; Petrik, Dimitri; Schweihoff, Julia; Stachon, Maleen; Winkelmann, StephanieEcosystems have the promising potential to respond to economic but also environmental and social challenges, such as by enabling circular thinking, establishing fair supply chains, responsible collaborations, and ensuring resilience. In this report, we summarize findings from multiple data sources in the context of the NaWerSys workshop series which was held together with the INFORMATIK conference. The results are informed by experiences collected from full-day paper sessions in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and a world café-based discussion with 15 participants from different backgrounds, including sustainability, engineering, platform governance, product service systems, and artificial intelligence. We structured the results along with four main fields of action concerning the core, the value, the design, and the management of sustainable ecosystems. By jointly elaborating on the status quo and possible research directions, the findings aim to advance our understanding and boost the concept of sustainable ecosystems.

The circular economy is a product of the transformation from a traditional "take-make- dispose"-approach to a closed-loop system, intending to reduce waste and reuse existing resources. The circular economy (CE) is particularly important for the automotive industry as it contributes greatly to global waste and pollution. Although many companies see the potential in the circular economy, research on it is still in its infancy. This paper starts precisely at this point, and analyses publicly presented measures for circular behavior in the automotive industry. We constructed a final sample of nine companies and conducted a website analysis. We assigned 150 identified measures to 30 dimensions and the 9R framework. Our findings indicate that recycling is the most applied principle in the automotive industry. Some measures do not fit the 9R framework. Thus, we argue to supplement the CE principles.
