- Workshopbeitrag3D User Interfaces for Interactive Annotation of Vascular Structures(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Saalfeld, Patrick; Glaßer, Sylvia; Preim, BernhardA large number of scientific documents show additional information through annotations, which can also be used in interactive 3D environments. Here, labels are usually placed on an image plane and do not benefit from the 3D domain to convey, e.g., depth cues. These are especially important for spatially complex structures, such as the Circle of Willis, which is the central part of the cerebral vessel system. We present an approach for diegetic annotations, i.e., labels which are part of the 3D world. Based on the wide space for possible label positions and orientations, we enable the user to interactively create and position labels. For this, we present a concept for a 3D User Interface (3D UI) setup in a semi-immersive and a fully-immersive environment. Furthermore, we describe an evaluation design to evaluate the different setups.
- Konferenzbeitrag3D-Visualisierung zur Eingabe von Präferenzen in Empfehlungssystemen(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Kunkel, Johannes; Loepp, Benedikt; Ziegler, JürgenIn diesem Beitrag stellen wir ein interaktives Empfehlungssystem vor, bei dem Nutzer ihre Präferenzen in einer dreidimensionalen Visualisierung des Produktraums eingeben können. Die Darstellung in Form einer Landschaft spiegelt dabei das Profil des aktuellen Nutzers wider, und ermöglicht diesem sowohl in Kaltstartsituationen als auch bei der späteren Anpassung eines existierenden Profils interaktiv seine Präferenzen anzugeben. Die Methode basiert auf den von allen Nutzern abgegebenen Bewertungen und benötigt kein inhaltliches Wissen über die Produkte. Die durchgeführte Nutzerstudie zeigt, dass die Visualisierung nachvollziehbar und hilfreich erscheint. Bezüglich der Eingabe von Präferenzen durch Modellierung der Landschaft ergaben sich ebenfalls vielversprechende Ergebnisse, u. a. auch im Hinblick auf User Experience und Empfehlungsqualität.
- WorkshopbeitragA Voice Driven Type Design Demo(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Wölfel, Matthias; Stitz, Angelo; Schlippe, TimWith voice driven type design (VDTD), we introduce a novel concept to present written information in the digital age. While the shape of a single typographic character has been treated as an unchangeable property until today, we present an innovative method to adjust the shape of each single character according to particular acoustic features in the spoken reference. Thereby, we allow to keep some individuality and to gain additional value in written text, which offers different applications – providing meta-information in subtitles and chats, supporting deaf and hearing impaired people, illustrating intonation and accentuation in books for language learners – up to artistic expression. In this paper we describe the demo system as demonstrated at the conference Mensch und Computer 2015.
- WorkshopbeitragAccuracy of a Low-Cost 3D-printed Head-Mounted Eye Tracker(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Schwind, Valentin; Pohl, Norman; Bader, PatrickThis contribution presents a mobile modular low-cost open source 3D printed eye tracking prototype, equipped with two off-the-shelf webcams. We compared the accuracy with two state-of-the-art commercial remote eye trackers. In order to verify the benefit of head stabilization, the devices have been tested with and without a chin rest. Experiments have been conducted to determine the feasibility of an open source system and the field of application for this kind of eye tracking device in the low-cost price segment. This opens new use cases and possibilities for indoor and outdoor usability studies and offers new opportunities to apply eye tracking on mobile devices.

Dieses Online-Banking-System wurde entworfen um verschiedene Modi der Systemanpassung zu demonstrieren, welche universell funktionieren. Insbesondere wurde hierfür eine besondere Systemkomponente entwickelt welche als zentrales Steuerelement fungiert: das ASpanel.
- KonferenzbeitragAmbiGlasses - Information in the Periphery of the Visual Field(Mensch & Computer 2012: interaktiv informiert – allgegenwärtig und allumfassend!?, 2012) Poppinga, Benjamin; Henze, Niels; Fortmann, Jutta; Heuten, Wilko; Boll, SusanneWhile more and more digital information becomes available, the demand to access information whenever and wherever increases. However, ubiquitous information provision often interferes with the user's primary tasks such as walking, driving, or reading. In this paper we present a mobile device called AmbiGlasses, a pair of glasses with 12 LEDs that illuminate the periphery of the user's field of view. A conducted user study shows that participants are able to locate the correct LED with 71% accuracy and estimate the rough location of the LED with 92% accuracy. Participants were further asked to exemplary design visualization configurations for four directions. Consistent results show that different participants encode directions with similar patterns. We argue that the AmbiGlasses can therefore be used to convey clear and intuitive navigation instructions.
- WorkshopbeitragAn Intuitive Textile Input Controller(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Heller, Florian; Lee, Hyun-Young {Kriz}; Brauner, Philipp; Gries, Thomas; Ziefle, Martina; Borchers, JanWhen thinking of textile interfaces, these are often imagined as being integrated into clothing. While this is the most prominent use of fabric, we present a standalone interface that builds on the natural set of interactions a piece of fabric affords, and that is feasible for industrial production. By integrating stitched patterns made of conductive thread into a square piece of fabric, we are able to sense established connections within this pattern and map these to a model how the cloth is folded. An integrated microcontroller tracks these connections and communicates them as two-dimensional continuous value changes to a host application. We present the technical construction of our prototype, a particular clip-on technique to establish the connection between fabric and electronics, and first insights into recognizing different grip gestures.
- WorkshopbeitragAssisting Mouse Pointer Recovery in Multi-Display Environments(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Fortmann, Florian; Nowak, Dennis; Bruns, Kristian; Milster, Mark; Boll, SusanneRecovering the mouse pointer in a multi-display environment after it got lost, e.g., because the user shifted his or her visual attention to another task, can be very annoying and frustrating. The reason is that the user has to oversee a large display space requiring sequential sampling actions. These actions consume psycho-physiological effort for moving the eyes and head around, and increase the time needed to recover the mouse pointer. In this paper, we present an assistant system to support users to recover their mouse pointers in multi-display environments. A preliminary user study showed no significant improvement of mouse pointer recovery time, but usability and satisfaction were assessed positive. This work was carried out as part of a course on human-machine interaction at the University of Oldenburg.

Users typically have dozens or even hundreds of contacts in their address book. The number of contacts can make it difficult to find particular contacts from the linear list provided by current phones. Grouping contacts ease the retrieval of particular contacts and also enables to share content with specific groups. Previous work, however, shows that users are not willing to manually categorize their contacts. In this paper we inves-tigate the automatic classification of contacts in phones contact lists, using the user s communication history. Potential contact groups were determined in an online survey with 82 participants. We collect-ed the call and SMS communication history from 20 additional participants. Using the collected data we trained a machine-learning algorithm that correctly classified 59.2% of the contacts. In a pilot study in which we asked participants to review the results of the classifier we found that 73.6% of the re-viewed contacts were considered correctly classified. We provide directions to further improve the performance and argue that the current results already enable to ease the manual classification of mo-bile phone contacts.
- WorkshopbeitragBedürfnislandschaft älterer Menschen in Österreich(Mensch und Computer 2015 – Proceedings, 2015) Erharter, Dorothea; Xharo, ElkaIm Rahmen eines Forschungsprojekts mit dem ÖIAT und B-NK wurden in einer Cultural Probe Studie die Bedürfnisse älterer, zuhause lebender Menschen (60+) in Österreich erforscht. Die Testpersonen dokumentierten ihre Wünsche, Bedürfnisse und Ärgernisse und lieferten zahlreiche Anknüpfungspunkte für die Entwicklung von mobilen Apps für SeniorInnen. Die dominierenden Themen waren hierbei Unterstützung im Haushalt, Medizinisches, Gartenarbeit, sowie soziale Kontakte und Familie.
